| The pure joy of animals .... |
[Jul. 1st, 2009|09:48 am] |
After 3 long months of raising kittens, Yadi is finally able to relax and just live. She is still concerned about the final two, keeps a close eye on them, and is very protective (she is INCREDIBLY laid back ... but she has shown that she has no fear of Hazel, Dude or anything else when it comes to protecting her kittens!).
And the true joy ... she now plays! She runs and wrestles with her kittens and chases toys and feathers with us. It is incredible to see her happiness. It is much deserved! |

| The questions of a lifetime ... |
[Jun. 29th, 2009|05:22 pm] |
1) Why does Dude insist on going outside to drink water? He has a perfectly fine (and clean) water bowl inside . Yet he insists on going outside multiple (like a lot) times each day just to drink out of the outside water dish. Then he wants to come back in. So, he is just going outside to drink. And, cotton, before you get smart with me, we have thought about removing the outside water dish. It just seems like such a mean thing to do to the old man. Plus, what would I have to bitch about if I always made the right decisions?
2) Why in the heck is Spidey completely and utterly socially unacceptable when it comes to playing with other kittens? We are down to two (yes, one buff one went home yesterday). And, this poor final buff one is getting pounded by Spidey on a regular basis. He has no finesse, kindess, manners. He is a bully. It was relatively OK when he spread his wrath among multiple kittens. Now it is just one getting hammered. And, the guy is getting beat to a pulp. So, we are going to have to separate these kittens for a bit. I quite literally have to be the only person on the face of the planet that raises jackarse dogs and kittens like it was a past-time. I should not be trusted with impressionable animals.
3) Why can't I potty train animals? I am really good at teaching sit, down, stay (ok, maybe not to the cats -- but I can teach them not to scratch!). But, I SUCK potty training. Across the board. I just suck. The kittens are fine. But, Hazel and Yadi are in a litter box war. We have 3 boxes set-up but it seems like they are fighting over one. And, someone is losing because someone keeps going right.outside.the.box. Best guess is Hazel but who knows. I need to go back to animal training school. Stat. |

| And we have three ... |
[Jun. 20th, 2009|07:45 pm] |
The home for the 2 buff kittens fell through. Disappointing but it is probably a good thing in the end.
So, these sweet and beautiful boys are back on the adoption market. Hopefully their right home will come along soon. They were inside today napping with Dave on the couch and Dave and I were both commenting on how freaking surprised we are that they are the last two left. They are such stunning, wonderful little boys.

| Scared fish? |

Between Spidey and the new wall decoration that resembles plates, the fish are probably starting to think that they are destined to become sushi.

| Spoiler alert .. Spoiler alert ... |
[Jun. 8th, 2009|08:40 am] |
This is what happens in Twilight ..

Despite what it looks like in the photo, no kittens were injured in the making of this photo. The buff kitten was the sound asleep that only kittens can do and kept getting pounced on. He slept peacefully through the whole attack. |

| I feel purdy .. |
[Jun. 5th, 2009|08:45 pm] |
Dude was groomed today and, if you ignore the hideous bandana, he actually looks happy with the cut and style! We found a wonderful mobile groomer a few months ago that comes to the house. She made decent progress last time but, since Dude probably hadn't been properly groomed (except for a summer shaving) in 10+ years, she could only do so much. He looked better but not perfect. After this grooming, you can really tell how good of shape his coat is in with a bit of attention. He looks and feels great.

| Par-tee Update |
[Jun. 1st, 2009|01:46 pm] |
So, we had our party (kitten adoption event) this weekend and it was a blast. A few updates -
1) I *think* that all of the kittens are adopted, except for Spidey. The adoption of the buff ones relies on a the cohersion powers of a wife to her husband. I know the husband and he is not easily swayed. So, they are still technically on the market. All of the kids had a lot of fun with the kittens and, despite Spidey being dropped flat on his head one time, everyone survived unscathed.
2) Elton was here for the party. No pictures yet because I was too busy hosting. There should be some coming from other sources. He is doing GREAT and it was SO.MUCH.FUN to have him. We had groups spread out over 5 to 6 acres and Elton seemed to have a list in his head. He'd run from group to group and visit for exactly 10 minutes before racing to the next group. He didn't want to miss out on a THING! There were lots of people around (probably 50 adults plus 20 kids at one point) and I didn't hear one "pit bull" freak out. Actually, all I heard were comment on Elton's wonderfulness. I didn't expect any negative behavior but you just never know. People really do continue to amaze me.
3) Our friends arranged a dog toy drive in memory of Dawkins and it was overwhelming. Seriously over the top. People are so so so good. I'll post more when I get some pictures.
4) We boarded Hazel this weekend since she has a new found love of darting outside through doors. She is still pissed at us for it. But, she'll get over it. I hope. |

| Our own personal adoption event? |
[May. 27th, 2009|04:32 pm] |
Party with 50+ friends and family. Many are camping out while I rest peacefully in my comfy bed (I am mean). Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day of sunshine, laughter, adult beverages and food. The 7 kittens will be on display, 5 of which still need homes. Keep your fingers crossed that their cuteness will sway a few folks to take one (or two or three!) home.
If not, I am going to make said kittens work to pay off of the tab for the party. |

| Hello there .. |
[May. 26th, 2009|11:27 am] |
And notice which kitten's eyes are WIDE OPEN. As WIDE OPEN as they can be. Yes, that it is Spidey. He reamins insane.
ETA: In case you were wondering (which I doubt you were), the kittens did grow legs. Lots and lots of really long legs. It seemed to happen overnight. They used to be awkard with big heads and no bodies. Now they are awkward with big heads, long legs, and no bodies.

| And a slide of him for dessert .. |
[May. 15th, 2009|01:46 pm] |

If you tell me that you can resist that little pink nose, then I call you heartless.
We've fielded many inquiries about the kittens. Not many adoptions but a lot of inquiries. Can you believe that not a single person has asked about the buff boys? Crazy, I tell you. Crazy. To me, they are the prettiest of the kittens (thankfully the others can't read this). |

| Last up - the Greys |
[May. 13th, 2009|09:25 am] |
Does it seems like I have been posting about these kittens FOREVER? It does to me. I will not be taking a few days off from posting. But, I will revert back to this week long spell the next time that someone gives me crap for not posting enough. Just remember -- it is feast or famine with me. Pick your poison.
Ah, the grey kittens share an entry as well. If I had to pick favorites, these gals would be it. They are just SO SO SO sweet .. and soft and cuddly too. They both take a bit of time to warm up to new things and new adventures. They are always the last to wake up from nap time and the first to curl up in your arm to go to sleep.
Just when you think that they are perfect, they get these bursts of energy and go off leaping across the room. This is white paw. Well, now Pearl. She is adopted. The ONLY kitten that has been adopted so far. Oi vey. We need to get on the adoption game. Takers?

| Kitten Playland |
[May. 12th, 2009|10:11 am] |
A few people have asked so .. here is a quick shot of kitten playland. We cleaned out our attached garage and kitten proofed it. We bring them 2 at a time into the house each day for at least an hour or so. But, our house is completely an open floor plan (with an unfinished basement). So, despite a lot of thinking, there was no place to house them in the house that would be safe. They seem to like their playland just fine ..

| Buff Boys .. |
[May. 12th, 2009|09:44 am] |
Wow, there are so many kittens that I'm not sure who I have left for the spotlight! Today, I'll do the Buff Boys. I realize that everyone else got individual posts but, seriously, I can't tell the Buffies apart in pictures. Actually, I can BARELY tell them apart IRL. One is a wee bit bigger and the other has a different nose (but that difference is fading). Is it possible for cats to be twins? If so, these boys might be.
I started off calling these boys Fat and Lazy. Then they were Bullies. Now they have settled into a nice little kitten routine. We have our extremes with the demure Spot Head (and Grey kitten) and the crazy Spidey. Like White Face, these boys fall right in the middle. However, unlike White Face, the boys have some wicked coordination.

| White Face |
[May. 11th, 2009|09:45 am] |
White face kitten was somewhat featured in my post the other day. She is a adorable and walks a fine line between two worlds. She is sweet and cuddly one minute ... and a crazed lunatic the second. To me, this makes her pure kitten. I love that she is always surprising us.
She still has little sense of her body, especially when compared to the other kittens. She seems surprised daily to find that he paws are actually connected to her body.
